Introduction
The ABB water and wastewater drive, ACQ580, features Intelligent Pump Control (IPC), thereby enhancing the drive by providing even more capable multi-pump control. The control commissioning is greatly improved: it includes a copy function, whereby the pump and timing settings from the first drive to be commissioned can be copied into the other drives on the system. This is carried out via the D2D (drive to drive) serial link - a simple twisted pair connection. Maintenance and maximum wear intervals, token passing and automatic master swapping are all configurable, allowing for a multi-pump system.
The ABB HVAC drive, ACH580, is now available as an ultra-low harmonic (ULH) variant. The drive has an active front end that actively ensures sinusoidal waveforms are drawn from the supply, minimising harmonic load onto the system. Typical total harmonic current distortion (THDi) is between 2 to 4 percent, compared to a traditional drive at 35 percent (assuming it contains a good quality choke) or a passive filter at 8 to 15 percent. The ULH ACS580-31 can operate alongside the standard ACH580 drive to achieve the best harmonic solution. ABB can assist in making the correct selections and combinations to satisfy the needs of G5/4. The ABB general purpose drive, ACS480, is available up to 22 kW. It compliments the ACS580 by having the same software internally and basic I/O structure. The ACS480 has a different form factor for use in applications where cabinet installation or limited space might be a consideration. The drive can be ordered with either the I/O or a fieldbus option modules fitted, making the commercial package more attractive.
