Description
The Time Synchronization protocol allows networks of Triconex controllers to be synchronized with each other, and optionally, with external devices. Triconex controllers on a network are typically synchronized with the master node (the controller with the lowest node number). If desired, the master node can accept time adjustments from an external device, such as a Foxboro DCS or an OPC client, so that the external device time prevails for all Triconex controllers on the network. Triconex Time Synchronization can be used with external devices that use TSAA or Modbus protocol. If networked controllers are collecting event data for system maintenance and shutdown analysis, Triconex Time Synchronization must be used to ensure accurate time-stamping of events. For the TCM, Time Synchronization can use the SNTP, DLC, or UDP/IP protocols. For controllers using NCMs for Triconex Time Synchronization, communication is limited to thelink layer (DLC) protocol. For controllers using TCM, link layer or UDP/IP communication are available to allow greater networking capability.
