Overview
With the recent expanding use of field digital technology, there are increasing demands for applying field digital technology not only when building new plants but also when upgrading existing plants. When upgrading plants, the plant shutdown period for migrating control systems must be as short as possible to minimize the cost. Therefore, the control systems need to be upgraded while not affecting signal conditioner nests and field wiring. This restriction has conventionally made it difficult to upgrade plants that use field digital technology. Yokogawa has released I/O modules with HART communication function and signal conditioners (SC) which allow both the use of field digital technology and migration at minimum cost.
1) When upgrading systems, field digital technology (HART communication) can be introduced by replacing only I/O modules, SCs, and field devices, leaving signal conditioner nests and field wiring unchanged.
2) Phased migration is possible: replacing a control system (I/O modules) first, and SCs and field devices next.
3) Introduction of the Plant Resource Manager (PRM) enables operation and maintenance utilizing field digital technology
