The existing field control stations (FCS) are upgraded one by one by utilizing the existing cabinets and field wirings. The CPU units (which are field control units or FCU) of the existing FCS and I/Os are upgraded into the latest FCU and I/Os. The latest FCUs improve the processing performance, increase application capacities, comply with the increment of a number of input/output channels, and implement control functions in linkage with the network functions. The new I/O units have functions compatible with the existing I/O units and those can be stored in the existing cabinets, which means the upgrading can be done by modifying inside of the cabinets. The existing field wirings are utilized as they are without changing interfaces with the field devices, which helps to shorten the period for upgrading work.
